		<description>
	Over the past four years, we’ve shared hallways, studios, classrooms, and the city of Portland. As we have studied and created art throughout the MECA&#38;amp;D campus, our paths have crossed in many ways– from exchanging smiles in the halls to forging lasting friendships and engaging in countless collaborations.
Much like the merging of streams in nature, Confluence is a gathering of these different paths and histories. Each senior brings unique ideas and approaches to their artistic practice, but for this brief moment, they come together in the halls of the Porteous building. This exhibition serves as one last confluence before our paths diverge and we embark on new adventures.

	Just This At a young age I didn't know that you could get paid to make cartoons and enjoy doing it. Having a chance to inspire a new generation of kids and young minds through the means of a tv show; that's my dream. As an artist I strive to improve my skills in the animation pipeline from going from a blank canvas to a room overflowing with ideas that can't be contained. That is what I achieved here. ‘DUM-e’ is a project that I have crafted for more than 2 years, trying to take a basic doodle on a sticky note and produce it to an animated pilot for the world to see. Through these 2 years of development I have understood my calling for this industry and that is pre production. This exhibit is the collection of ideas, renders and storyboards that I have conceived. This idea of a free thinker escaping the confines of his maker that wants to control his every move in the game of life. This my attempt at a process that is done through hundreds of people, but this time only one is doing it.

BioSyd Adams is a 2D character designer and animator. Their most recent project, Just This, is an upcoming short film that explores love and beauty in the mundane. Adams’ previous collaborative short films Dino Nuggets and Off Track, have been screened at the Animation Planet film festival, Streetside Cinema festival, and New York Cinemafest. Off Track won Best Animation North America at Couch Film Festival and Best in Show at the Maine College of Art &#38;amp; Design Film Festival.

	SavorSavor is an exploration of the visual deconstruction of food and its relation to domesticity. The tension between sustenance and performance, mess and ritual. My thesis project explores the intertwined rituals of food and domesticity through acts of deconstruction—physical, and emotional. Drawing from personal memory, tradition, and poetry, I examine how the kitchen acts as both a place of nourishment and a stage for performance, repetition, and control.

	Cultivating Reciprocity: Reconnecting to the natural worldDuring the summer of 2023 I interned as a horticulturist at Longwood gardens, one of the largest botanical gardens in the country, located outside of Philadelphia. Working there introduced me to the depth of knowledge held within the study of horticulture and botany, as well as the beauty and intricacies of our natural environments. Spending time working with and caring for the land has opened a deep sense of reverence for the natural world within me, but everyday I watch as we move further and further away from it. I believe that there is an immediate need for us to reconnect to our natural environments, and I aim to highlight this through my printmaking. Making engravings of landscapes inspired by naturalist paintings and botanical illustrations has allowed me to continue the passion for botany that I gained while working as a groundskeeper, as well as highlighting how human connection to our environment is vital in a time of increasing separation.

BioMiah Barnard currently attends Maine College of Art and Design, BFA pending in 2025, with a focus in Printmaking. During her time at MECA&#38;amp;D she has worked as the business manager for a student artist collective, The Noise Collective, and as the intern for the MECA&#38;amp;D Holiday Mini Market. She is currently working in exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art, alongside MECA&#38;amp;D’s exhibitions coordinator Sarah Sawtelle. After an internship at Longwood Gardens during the summer of 2023, she is currently on track to become a Horticulturist.Former illustrator—now printer and bookbinder—Miah Barnard’s work focuses on the relationship between humans and our natural world. Her art has been shaped by her experience within the Horticultural field. Working as a groundskeeper, She became enamored by the natural structures she saw around her and how effortlessly they replicate artistic principles. This slowly formed a reverence for nature within her, and it has become the driving force behind her artistic work. Based on her education in Sustainable Agriculture principles, she has realized the urgency of the need for humans to reconnect with the land. Through her work, she draws attention to this discrepancy, asking the audience to re-evaluate their relationship and reconnect with the environment around them.

	Circe: Exploring Illustration's Role in Literature
Each illustration in this series is based on a chapter from Madeline Miller's 2018 novel, Circe. The book is written from the perspective of the goddess Circe, best known for her small role in The Odyssey. Circe grants the reader a feminist lens through which to view classic Greek myths. I chose key moments in the narrative to illustrate, which would be contextualized on the page preceding their respective chapters. I explored how narrative can be adapted into imagery, translating literary elements into compositional details. Some themes I drew upon from the text include identity, divinity, power dynamics, and connection to the natural world. I used traditional materials to complement my prioritization of nature imagery and reference my admiration of early 20th-century book illustration. As I created this work, I considered the historical experiences of women in illustration and literature, highlighting the importance of women’s stories being told by women and the value of illustration in storytelling.

BioEmma Barry is an illustrator from Freeport, Maine. Growing up in Maine allowed Emma to develop a strong connection to the natural world, which informs much of her work. She often works traditionally, favoring colored pencils, ink, watercolors, or gouache. Her use of traditional mediums enables her to stay present in her process and convey her interest in the artist’s hand being visible through mark-making. Emma enjoys using illustration to tell stories, creating compositions full of expressive movement to direct the viewer through the image. She applies her illustration practice in various contexts, including packaging, comics, printmaking, and book illustrations.

	i'd embrace you before i left. I’m clairvoyant, which means through painting/drawing, I can access the plane of the dead. The pieces I make are bodies. The bristol paper is the skeleton, built up with skin of graphite and ink, stretched taut in bondage over their surfaces. The bodies become my own. I seek to send these bodies to a different plane of existence to grapple with my suicidal ideation, to send the bodies to a plane without the urgency of suicide. The pieces may never reach this plane, but they bring me closer to understanding how death affects my body. My fascination with clairvoyance has led me to seek methods for communicating with bodies on other planes. This manifested in an obsession with the magic eight ball. I am hunting for answers better than the ones I got about my suicidality. The magic eight ball may not provide these answers, instead providing guidance in the process of making. I ask yes or no questions about the work, it answers and I obey it. Through this process of creating the work I find glimpses of answers about my suicidal ideation, continuing to shake the magic 8 ball violently in search of them.

Biolilith lux batty is a New England based multimedia painter and poet. Her work focuses on her personal experiences with queer identity and mental illness, with an emphasis on camp, collage, and text. She is the author of two self published poetry books entitled Uncle Mommy, Girl Sin and Calla Lilies. She is also a bimbo who loves breakfast food, the Twilight Saga, and fantasizing about horrific ways to meet a bloody demise.

	The Artist's Meal The only thing people ever talk about when they talk about artists and money is about how they don’t have any. My work challenges this narrative by bringing art and finance into a shared dialogue, showing that creativity and financial literacy can coexist in powerful ways.
For my senior thesis, I provided 20 free financial coaching sessions to artists, tailoring guidance to their financial goals. In exchange, each participant contributed a self-taken image of food. I incorporated these into a large-scale still life painting, evoking abundance. Symbols of hope and prosperity reinforce a wish for financial success. Upon its sale, I will share half of my portion of the proceeds with the participants, reinforcing shared financial empowerment.
 Food symbolizes abundance and security, qualities I want to associate with the artist’s life. By reinterpreting Dutch Still Life traditions and using finance as a framework, my work fosters both critical discourse and tangible action to challenge the starving artist narrative.
 Ultimately, by using finance as the framework for my paintings, I hope to spark curiosity and encourage a deeper understanding of how these systems can intersect, offering a more hopeful and expansive perspective on money in creative fields.

BioJaden Kyung-Moon Bauch is a Maine-based oil painter focused on representational realism. Her work explores themes of economics, markets, and the American dream, expressed through landscape and still life.
Jaden's commitment to the arts has been recognized through accolades including the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, the Albert K Murray Fine Arts Educational Grant, and the Letitia Moore Scholarship.
She is also passionate about financial services, particularly for artists and creatives. Jaden is currently pursuing the Certified Financial Planner certification. Her dual expertise in finance and art informs her unique painting approach, blending her understanding of financial systems with artistic practice.

	Whispers of WormwoodWhispers of Wormwood is an animatic pilot for an animated adult show of the same name. This pilot serves as a proof of concept for what the show will be like. The show will deal with themes of the fear of the unknown, the duality of human nature, and the consequences of unchecked ambition and the hubris of man. As a storyteller and artist I am motivated by both telling a good impactful story as well as exploring complex and thought provoking themes. I love animation and think that as a storytelling medium there is room, especially in western animation, to tell far more complex stories.

BioBria is an animator and designer with a passion for animation as a medium. Their artistic journey has been driven by an unwavering passion for visual storytelling, where they’ve focused on capturing compelling narratives and dynamic characters through their work. With a strong emphasis on pre-production, Bria specializes in both storyboarding and character design, as well as 2D animation ensuring that each project they undertake has a solid foundation of creativity and structure. Their love for comedy and action is deeply reflected in their work, as they excel at blending humor with high-energy sequences to create engaging and memorable experiences.

	Looking Through the Machine If the only answer is up or down, why don't we live on a 2 dimensional plane You can not grow by eating your own flesh. Atrophy To eat your own flesh is to deepen your starvation.True intelligence and strength is achieved through exploration of the infinite unfamiliar and strange. Submerge yourself into another's skinEmbrace the strange and unfamiliar and you will be knowledgeable, care for it and it will share its secrets with you, become the strange and unfamiliar
I seek to put my viewer into the perspective of another. By creating immersive installations and activating the senses of my audience, I hope to remove them from their limited perspective and allow them to see through someone else's eyes. I don't seek to remove others from themself, instead to cultivate empathy and understanding for those that they consider different. By opening a space of self reflection, I hope that my viewer will leave thinking of their role in creating this perceived difference. You and I are both flesh to feed, so let us interchange our perceptions.

BioI create objects, paintings, performances, and events that explore the complexities of the human experience—conflict, visibility, and vulnerability within society. My current work examines assimilation in America and the church, the visual language of care, and the interplay between simulation, the sublime, and sensory experience. By engaging with painful or challenging moments, I aim to foster healing, empathy, and communal connection. My practice, rooted in empathy, nurture and support, often juxtaposes emotional depth with sharp, contrasting visuals. I am currently preoccupied with the idea of combining recognizable and unrecognizable materials such as metal, latex, and natural materials as a means of exploring the conceptual or formal tension. Hard and comforting my practice thrives in a place between contrasting feelings, and I choose material to embody these feelings, ideas, and research.

	In Memoriam: Honoring Animals Who Have Died in the Human Pursuit of Knowledge and PowerMy artistic practice is centered around the natural world and how humans interact with their environment. I work with themes of reverence for life and its many iterations, highlighting concepts of death, rebirth, and the beauty that is to be found in the mundane. I am a printmaker who primarily works in relief and etching to create detailed compositions combining animal portraiture and botanical illustration. My current body of work for my senior thesis revolves around the forgotten animal victims of human progress, depicting the realities of their painful, often short lives to bring attention to the situations so often forgotten or unknown. My background is in human portraiture, and recently I have translated that passion into capturing the beauty and essence of all types of creatures. I bring aspects of collage and painting into my print practice through hand coloring, chine colle, and intricate cuttings of my prints. Hand coloring has become very important to bring life and vibrancy into the subjects of my prints, I enjoy playing around with various color combinations and the endless iterations that come from one matrix. This is the main joy I find within printmaking, countless possibilities can be combined into infinite compositions.&#38;nbsp;
BioLane Bonis graduated from the Printmaking department at The Maine College of Art &#38;amp; Design in Portland Maine. She plans to enroll in the Masters in Teaching program after graduation and become an art teacher in Maine. She comes from a long line of teachers and is passionate about bringing art and creativity to everyone. She works primarily in the mediums of relief and intaglio, doing medium to large-scale wood blocks and copper etching. Hand coloring and collage are also vital to her practice, bringing painting into the world of print, and creating delicate, hand-cut collages from an edition of prints.
