The Ache God Leaves

Exploring the separations and unities of the law and religion, I present my character, Nigel, who struggles with his troubled past and dividing what he has learned in his work as a court judge with what he was taught in his upbringing within the Catholic church. He is portrayed as both man and deer, connecting human and nature with their fragility and weaknesses, melting into one being. Using materials such as wood, paint, metal, pieces of deer skeletons, and found objects, I give Nigel life and expression, taking him out of my mind and displaying him in both 2D and 3D forms. He is put into the world for people's consumption and interpretations as an accumulation of the materials I’ve learned to use, and the thoughts that I’ve had over the last few years with my own struggles that mirror his in different forms.

Bio

Jay Leach, a New England based artist, has a love for art that has spanned her entire life, and she works in many different mediums, such as paint, wood, and yarn. Jay has an infatuation with using deer as both a representation of herself and of tough emotions, and deer appear in much of her work. She has a heavy interest in law and politics, and some of the art she makes along with the shows and videos she watches reflects this interest. In the future, Jay plans on continuing her studies by pursuing an MFA or a law degree.
