BENEVOLENT ABSENCE: I Don't See Color

My work concentrates on racial dynamics between black and nonblack bodies within institutional space. I utilize limited color palettes and racially coded materials to expose the recessive qualities of whiteness. In doing so, I'm able to make apparent the intangible and often unrecognized forces that dictate how we interpret both the artworks and individuals that produce them. Within my practice, I play with racial biases and stereotypes, while also poking fun at the ideologies behind them.

By positioning “whiteness” as a problematic, I’m reorienting the conversation around racial tension. Rather than gesturing towards experiences outside of the realm of whiteness, I instead introduce the notion that atmospheres and instigations of racial violence (physical and emotional) are tangibly felt and experienced by both black and nonblack individuals alike, despite being experienced differently.
