Tempering

Tempering is a story about the nuances and difficulties of a relationship between mother and daughter and what makes that dynamic so unique. I frequently reference my relationship with my own mother; we are both eldest siblings and sometimes we are so alike it causes endless bickering, but it’s also one of the most rewarding relationships in my life. I use this connection as an avenue to explore further themes of womanhood and growing up.

I use the mother character as a lens to convey both these themes and the delicate balance I’ve observed of keeping your child safe while simultaneously embracing an eagerness for discovery and curiosity. My film picks out one of those moments, exploring how we can make the most of opportunities to strengthen our understanding of each other and use them to grow in tandem.
