Dominos Anime

‘Animus Domini’ is a Latin phrase with a double meaning.‘Mind of god’ and ‘intention to own/dominate’In this series of paintings, I sought to bring these two sentiments against one another. Using pop culture and humor to allude to modern and powerful terrors, both internally and externally, I wanted to make crucial the idea that we do have power and must not be subject to the spells cast down from above.
Or those we tend to cast upon ourselves and others.
Human subjugation spans all of art history and theology.If we can overcome this animal mind, and commune in light of tragedy, there will be hope for greater peace through individual thought and action; as supported through our love for one another.

Bio

Corey Matthews (@coresamples) is a multimedia artist focusing on illustrating the often subjugative, and secondary, nature of enlightenment while keeping things light and humorous.

Delving into art history, theology and anthropomorphic fast food characters, Corey builds a narrative encompassing the outer boundaries of self awareness and emotional calm.

Building on their experience in recovery, wilderness survival and public relations’ strategy of influence: Matthews seeks to upend the status quo of compartmentalized, algorithmic, menu item experience and pursue a career path of Art Therapy in communion with a devout studio practice.
