I Dream of Magpies

I Dream of Magpies is a language and story learning game for viewers who may not be familiar with Northern Cheyenne language or stories. For me, it is a dictionary, a diary, a collection, and a love letter to every part of me. It is a journey of learning to be comfortable speaking my language while being away from home and also trying to create a new one. For this journey I needed to rely on an old friend, the Magpie. She won The Great Race for man and she gave us the gift of speech shortly after, so it only makes sense that I would use her as a guiding light in finding my own voice again.
By bringing bits of my tribe's stories into a new form of art like a video game, I am helping the story evolve and giving it space in the contemporary. Many more stories will continue to evolve with me and long after me. My tribe and our stories are not moments of the past, we are here now and always will be, even in video games.
